INJECTABLE FILLERS

As we age the effects of gravity, sun exposure and years of facial muscle movement (such as smiling, talking and squinting), the inner tissues that keep our skin looking youthful begin to breakdown, often leaving laugh lines, crow’s feet or facial creases.

Injectable fillers can help smooth lines and creases, restoring a more youthful-looking appearance. When injected beneath the skin, these fillers plump up creased and sunken areas of the face. They can also add fullness and definition to the lips and cheeks.

Injectable fillers may be used alone or in combination with other fillers or in conjunction with procedures such as a laser treatment or BOTOX®. The results are immediate and can last up to six to 9 months or even longer.

Common uses for Injectible fillers include:
  • Wrinkle correction
  • Diminishing worry lines, smile lines, crow's feet, marionette lines at corners of the mouth, and smoker's lines
  • Lip enhancement
  • Reducing the severity of nasolabial folds
  • Chin augmentation
  • Filling cheek depressions
  • Redefining lip border
  • Softening acne scars
Other, less common, uses for Injectible fillers include:
  • Filling hollows under the eyes
  • Creating a temporary eyebrow lift
  • Correcting facial depressions caused by fat loss
  • Softening the appearance of jowls

What are my options for injectable fillers?
There are many options for dermal fillers. Each of these options has its own set of risks and benefits. Dr. Lacombe can work with you to determine which of these treatments is best for your age, desired outcome, skin type, facial structure and your lifestyle.

RADIESSE

Radiesse
- The unique composition of Radiesse provides immediate visual improvement common with other fillers, along with the benefit of long-lasting results. This is because Radiesse is made of very tiny, smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. The microspheres (particles) form a scaffold through which your body’s own collagen grows. Used to restore and reshape obvious signs of facial aging, Radiesse allows physicians to treat large areas or deep wrinkles of the face in one procedure.

FAQs

Can injectables fix all my wrinkles?
Injectables are sometimes used in conjunction with facial surgery procedures; however, injectables alone can make a dramatic difference. Some very deep folds in the face or brow caused by overactive muscles or by loose skin may be more effectively treated with cosmetic surgery, such as a facelift or brow lift. Dr. Lacombe will work with you to determine if an injectible procedure or a combination of procedures is the best choice for you.

What can I expect from treatment?
The most important fact to remember about injectable fillers is that the results last from several months to several years (with an occasional touchup), but not forever. Injected material is eventually metabolized by the body, which is why you will need periodic treatments to maintain your youthful appearance. You should not expect the same long-lasting results that may be gained from cosmetic surgery.

Researchers believe that age; genetic background, metabolism, skin quality and lifestyle as well as the injected body site may all play a role in the injected material's "staying power." Sometimes one substance may work better than the other for a specific problem. Dr. Lacombe can help you determine how long you can go between treatments to best maintain your results.

How soon will I be able to go back to work?
As with all injections, there is always the possibility of getting a small bruise at or near the injection site. Not taking blood-thinning medications such as Aspirin, Advil, Aleve, etc. will help reduce your risk.

Some patients return to work immediately following injection, while others may need 24 hours. No bandaging is needed and you are free to eat, drink, and wear makeup with sun block protection shortly after treatment. There may be some temporary swelling and redness in the treated area, which should dissipate within a day or two.

Will injectables become hard or noticeable to touch?
No, they will remain soft and pliable and will take on the characteristics of the surrounding soft tissue.
